Mahindra is preparing a new entry-level variant for its popular SUV Thar, which will not have a four-wheel drive system. The details of which surfaced in a video online. With minor changes, it will also get a smaller diesel engine.

Talking about the design, it will not just have 4x4 badging. The standard Thar's 4x4 lever has been replaced with additional storage space in the cabin. Rest of the features list is expected to remain unchanged from the 4X4 model.

The biggest changes are based on its engine. In addition to the 4x4 system, the new 4x2 variant will get a smaller diesel engine, while the 4x4 model is offered with the familiar 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, the 4x2 variant of the Thar will get a 1.5-litre diesel Engine (diesel engine) will be available. As per the leaked information, the new engine will produce 117 bhp power and 300 Nm of peak torque, which is 13 bhp less than the standard model, though the torque remains the same as the 2.2-litre diesel.

Details of the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine have also been tipped, though the SUV remains unchanged from the 4X4 model. Specified gearbox options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Mahindra is expected to announce the launch date of the new variant soon.
