Hanuman Jayanti is observed as the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman. The day is very significant for the devotees of Lord Hanuman. Lord Hanuman is the son of Mata Anjana and Kesari. Hanuman is closely associated with Lord Ram. It is believed that if one wants to receive the blessings of Lord Ram, he has to first devote himself to Hanuman, who is believed to be the greatest devotee of Lord Ram. In Ramayana, Hanuman supported Lord Ram along with his army of Vanar Sena in the battle against Ravan. Hanuman is also known as an avatar of Lord Shiva. This is because his parents Anjana and Kesari sat in devotion and penance to Lord Shiva before his birth. Ultimately, Lord Shiva was pleased with their prayers and Hanuman was born. On the day of Hanuman Jayanti, idols of Hanuman are worshipped. Devotees go to temples, chant verses from the Hanuman Chalisa, and take part in the aarti, which is also accompanied by mantras and chants. Devotees worship Hanuman to ward off evil from their lives and to be blessed with strength.


Significance of Hanuman Jayanti Origin 
Lord Hanuman is an ardent devotee of Lord Rama and He is the central figure of the Hindu epic Ramayana. Hence the origin of the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman goes back to the Era of Lord Rama. Hence, it is difficult to find the exact time of Hanuman Jayanti as it is getting observed for ages (as per some unconfirmed records Lord Hanuman was born approximately 1 crore and 85 lakhs years before). It is believed that Lord Hanuman was born during Chaitra Purnima just after sunrise on weekday Mangalwar. He was born during Chitra Nakshatra and Mesha Lagna.

Hanuman Jayanti in Tamil Nadu - In Tamil Nadu, Hanuman Jayanti is observed as Hanumath Jayanthi and observed during Margashirsha Amavasya.
Hanuman Jayanti in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana - In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Hanuman Jayanthi is observed for 41-days which starts on Chaitra Purnima and ends on the tenth day during Krishna Paksha in Vaishakha month. In Andhra Pradesh devotees begin 41-days Deeksha on Chaitra Purnima and conclude it on Hanuman Jayanthi day.
Hanuman Jayanti in Karnataka - In Karnataka, Hanuman Jayanti is observed on Shukla Paksha Trayodashi during Margashirsha month. The day is popularly known as Hanuman Vratam.
